The official seal or emblem of the Descendants of Mexican War Veterans bears the name of the organization and year of founding (1989). The two stars represent Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott. The interior of the seal includes the dates of the war (1846-1848) and the seal or badge of the National Assn. of Veterans of the Mexican War (designed in 1876), to which the DMWV considers itself the heir in spirit. Jefferson Davis was a member of the National Assn. of Veterans of the Mexican War.
